This NFL year opened with the news that the Arizona Cardinals had finally decided to revamp their wardrobe, archiving once and for all what were rightly considered among the ugliest uniforms in the league.
The choice, at least in the presentation phase and during the preseason, is to take the field with single-color high quality wholesale uniforms (jersey, pants and socks); we’ll see if later in the year the Cardinals start mixing up the elements to create new combinations.
The main jersey for home games is red, the away uniform is white and the alternate uniform is black, and among the new look is the introduction of silver for some elements.
The team will use a white helmet with the two main cheap jerseys while continuing to use the black helmet introduced last year to match the black uniform.
The facemask of the new white helmet is silver-colored and no longer gray, the logo on the side is larger, iridescent and shaded (the same style as that of the black alternative helmet introduced last year), and silver-colored particles have been added to the white color.
Although it was not difficult to take a step in the right direction given the bad uniforms the team was taking out of circulation, the stylistic choices made in creating the new set leave one puzzled to say the least. The monochrome trend continues to plague the NFL, and that in itself is a problem. Analyzing the home uniform personally, I can only deplore the red pants without side bands, which do not help break up the boring bloodstain image, and the large ARIZONA lettering on the chest, which is as much an eyesore as it is unnecessary. The white and black cheap best jerseys look more like an NFL uniform, albeit with the limitations of monochrome. The bands on the sleeves and in the pants provide a touch of color, although the silver-very nice in the right light-under very bright conditions seems to get completely lost in the white of the away uniform. On the silver sleeve band appears in black the CARDINALS inscription, a further superfluous homage to “modernity.” With its silver facemask, silver particles lending vibrancy to the white, and a modified logo, the main helmet is the most successful element of the new set.
